CREATIVITY AS A PATHWAY TO

Tourism and festivals

Let visitors encounter the region through people, places and living culture.

Our Vision

THE OPPORTUNITY

Let visitors encounter the region through people, places and living culture.

Visitor experiences are stronger when local communities help shape the story and benefit from it. Festivals can connect performance, food, craft and regional identity without treating culture as a prop.

01

Design with local hosts

Build an experience around knowledgeable guides, makers and performers. Confirm community consent, access arrangements and what photography or recording is appropriate.

02

Plan visitor care

Prepare clear schedules, transport guidance, accessibility information and safety procedures. Avoid promoting an event date or booking promise that has not been confirmed by the organiser.

03

Keep value in the region

Commission local suppliers where practical and credit the people behind the experience. Explain a souvenir’s origin and the maker’s role rather than selling a generic regional label.

CREATIVE MERCHANDISE

UNESCO — Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival

Argungu is in north-western Nigeria, not the Niger Delta: it is a comparative example only. UNESCO describes water competitions and intergenerational learning, including apprenticeship, and links continuity to knowledge of water quality and fish stocks. No Niger Delta festival dates are inferred.
